Chris'
Library Workshops
During the last
two years, I started holding various
cartooning and animation workshops
for various libraries in the Northern
Virginia area - specifically with Loudoun
and Fairfax County.
The workshop
classes are two hours long and are
designed for kids between the ages
of 8 to young teens. A brief synopsis
of each workshop appears below and
my current schedule appears on the
right.
Anime
Workshop
Animation used to be the main focus
of my cartooning workshops but I soon
discovered simply talking about how
animation is done was too boring for
a two hour workshop. Instead, I talk
a little bit about animation but concentrate
on the cartooning aspects of it instead.
Cartooning
Workshop
The two hour workshop is divided into
several parts. In the first part, I
show and talk about various books and
reference material that I keep in my
studio. The second part is a demonstration
of all my working tools (pens, brushes,
markers and even various papers I use).
The third part is a demonstration of
how to take complicated objects like
airplanes, cars or people and turn
them into cartoons. The last part of
the workshop is interactive as I create
an individual cartoon character based
on the various features the kids in
the workshop suggest.
Web Design
This is also a two hour workshop where
I explain the very basics of web
design. I demonstrate different types
of web graphics and why you should
use them. I talk about the very basics
of html coding and how one can quickly
create a simple web site with the
use of my laptop.
